Gayo Lues Flash Flood: River Overflow Sweeps Away Houses and Severely Damages Bridge

Banda Aceh News | BLANGKEJEREN, ACEH — Torrential rainfall pounding Gayo Lues Regency from late Saturday afternoon, November 7, 2026, through early Sunday morning has triggered severe river overflows in the Pintu Rime area, sweeping away several residential homes and submerging villages across two districts.

The sudden rise in water levels submerged villages in Pining and Dabun Gelang districts starting at around 2:00 AM WIB. Emergency officials confirmed that high-velocity currents caused extensive structural destruction along the riverbanks.

“In Pertik Village, Pining District, several local houses were completely swept away by the raging current,” reported Haslinda Juwita, media spokesperson for the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) Operations Control Center (Pusdalops), on Sunday morning, November 8, 2026.

Infrastructure and Critical Facilities Destroyed

Beyond the destruction of residential property, the flash flood severely damaged vital local infrastructure. A key suspension bridge in Pertik Village suffered structural failure and heavy damage, isolating movement in the immediate area.

Downstream in Badak Village, Dabun Gelang District, floodwaters caused severe bank erosion around another bridge structure. Furthermore, BPBA reports confirmed that a commercial gas station (SPBU) located in Pertik Village sustained heavy flood damage during the early morning surge.

Emergency Response and Assessment

Local disaster response teams, joint military and police personnel, and SAR units have been deployed to conduct rapid damage assessments and assist affected villagers. As of Sunday morning, no casualties or fatalities have been officially reported.

“The Gayo Lues Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is closely coordinating with Pining District officials, Pertik village leaders, TNI/Polri forces, and local SAR teams to conduct rapid assessments and catalog the full extent of material losses,” Haslinda added.

Authorities continue to monitor water levels while clearing debris and providing emergency support to displaced families whose homes were swept away in the overnight disaster.
